Welcome to One Track Mind’s first mini episode! We’re really keen to keep providing regular weekly content, and in order to do this sustainably we’ve decided to trial some fortnightly mini episodes. That means you’ll still get the usual format you’ve come to know and love every two weeks, where we tackle sport’s biggest questions with expert guests from across the globe, and on the alternating off weeks you’ll get fun, shorter episodes packed with all sorts of bonus material. They might delve deeper into a subject that’s been covered in a recent episode, or perhaps serve as a primer for a topic to come.

This first mini episode actually does a little bit of both, as it centres on a theme that has featured in some previous discussions and will also be targeted specifically in an episode we have coming up in a few weeks time. The topic: Complexity.

Complexity is a topic that is growing in popularity across sport. Before we get into making a case for complexity’s importance to sport at all, we’re taking the opportunity on this mini episode to actually define the term.

Luckily, recent work from a UK group, the Centre for the Evaluation of Complexity Across the Nexus has already done a lot of the heavy lifting. Developed in conjunction with leading experts, the Centre has distilled complexity down to its 16 defining features. On this episode,  Professor Sam Robertson is joined by Dr Carl Woods to unpack these features as they specifically relate to sport. Enjoy!
